He said this in an interview to Ukrainski Novyny, Censor.NET reports.
Answering the question about achievements and shortcomings of the Ukrainian authorities in the past two years and about the least-reformed sectors, the Ambassador of Canada in Ukraine said he was thinking of prosecution and judicial system. According to him, these systems are the most affected by the previous paradigm of the power. Waschuk joked that if someone in Ukraine was making a blockbuster about superheroes, they would be judges and prosecutors. They are immortal in terms of career, he said.
He said it was important that the groups preserving the old system were not able to prevent changes, which completely depends of Ukrainians, Waschuk believes.
The Ambassador gave an example of Naftohaz Ukrainy company, which decreased it losses from 7 billion to 1 billion over last year, thus saving 6 billion of taxpayers' money due to Prozorro procurement. However, on the other hand, new inspections appeared, checking up on these significant changes in financial statements, which causes unneeded time spent on explaining how this happens to those control bodies.
Much has been done in Ukraine, Waschuk said, but much more could have been done if not for this systematic reluctance and blood sucking by the old system's elements, the Ambassador summed up, adding that corruption has decreased in key sectors.
