Ministry of Defense Military Medical Department Director Andrii Verba operated on a wounded soldier in the area of anti-terrorist operation (ATO).

Censor.NET journalist Anastasiia Bereza reports.

According to her, it happened on Sunday, April 3, in Avdiivka. Senior Lieutenant of the 90th Battalion, 81st Airborne Brigade Oleksandr Lutskyi received shrapnel wounds of both legs in the industrial area on the outskirts of the town, which has been under fire from Donetsk for almost a month now.

Without wasting time, he was taken to the nearest army checkpoint, where MoD chief medical officer and distinguished surgeon Andrii Verba happened to be.

The wounds were so serious that doctors and ATO medical officers decided to operate in the nearest hospital in Avdiivka. As only 20 percent of medical staff remained at the hospital because of the war, Andrii Verba operated in person.

The operation lasted nearly two hours. After it finished, it was necessary to wait for emergency delivery of donated blood and a vascular surgeon from Krasnoarmiisk.

That same night, Oleksandr Lutskyi was evacuated by helicopter to Dnipropetrovsk, where he regained consciousness. On Tuesday, he was taken to Kyiv Military Hospital. Doctors give the most optimistic forecasts regarding his condition.
