 Ukraine's sovereign debt increased by UAH 169 billion since beginning of year, - Finance Ministry

Ukraine's government and government-backed debt amounted to $64.35 billion or 1,740,940,000,000 hryvnia late Feb., which was 1.8 percent or $1.16 billion lower than the one recorded at the beginning of the year. However, this index is 10.7 percent or 168,760,000,000 hryvnia higher than the one in the national currency as at the beginning of the year.

This is stated in the report of Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, Censor.NET informs citing Ukrainski Novyny.

The government and government-backed debt amounted to 1,740,940,000,000 hryvnia or $64.35 billion as of Feb. 29 against 1,645,620,000,000 hryvnia or $65.43 billion reported a month earlier.

The sovereign government debt amounted to 1,483,850,000,000 hryvnia ($54.85 billion) by the end of February against 1,392,400,000,000 hryvnia ($55.36 billion at the end of January 2016).

However, the country's foreign debt increased by 1.08 percent or $0.37 billion to $34.72 billion over the past month, while the government debt increased by 3.04 percent to 544,520,000,000 hryvnia.

The government-backed debt amounted to 257,090,000,000 hryvnia or $9.50 billion as of Feb. 29, 2016.
