Russia to cancel gas discount for Ukraine effective April 1, - Minister of Energy Novak

"There is an agreement between Naftogaz and Gazprom, signed in 2009, which includes a formula that binds the price of gas to the cost of gas oil. We consider this price not sufficient for Ukraine to make the purchase of gas from Russia commercially profitable. And there is no emergency, which the seller might expect. We have enough gas reserves, and the heating season comes to its end," the official said.

According to him, Ukraine buys gas from traders at $170. "We have a German supplier of gas to Ukraine, Statoil. There is a dozen of traders, which vary depending on the situation, because the contracts are generally signed for each month," Demchyshyn said.
