 Number of attacks rose to 77 over past day, Avdiivka remaining hottest spot, - Staff

During the last day, the number of attacks by paramilitary bands on anti-terrorist operation (ATO) forces increased to 77 cases.

Censor.NET informs referring to ATO press center report as of 6 a.m., April 1.

"By concentrating mortar and artillery fire against Ukrainian defenders, the enemy dealt 30 powerful strikes, boldly using 82- to 152-mm heavy weapons prohibited by the Minsk agreements," the report notes.

According to the staff, at the Donetsk direction, militants repeatedly opened fired on ATO forces in the vicinity of Zaitseve, Maiorsk, and Butivka mine. Avdiivka still remains the epicenter of fighting: "Our positions here were 16 times attacked as terrorists employed artillery, mortars, grenade launchers, and small arms."

As also noted, militants tend to use heavy weapons against the residents of the so-called industrial area, seeking to weaken Ukrainian troops' positions and spread panic among civilians as well as accusing the Ukrainian side of neglecting the peace agreements.

"At the Mariupol direction, the enemy activity was also rather intense. Ukrainian strong points near Vodiane, Talakivka, Novotroitske, Shyrokyne, Marinka, and Hnutove were hit with banned weapons," the staff added.
