 Russia conducts powerful militarization of occupied Crimea, seeks to deploy nuclear weapons, - Poroshenko

The Russian Federation intends to deploy nuclear weapons in the territory of temporarily Russian-occupied Crimea.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Interfax-Ukraine, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said speaking at the forum "Ukraine's Battle for Freedom Continues" in the U.S. Congress.

Russia conducts powerful militarization of Crimea. Above all, it seeks to deploy nuclear weapons there, he said.

The head of state reminded that Ukraine had given up the third largest nuclear weapons arsenal in the world and received guarantees from the Budapest Memorandum signatory states in return.

According to Poroshenko, Ukraine in fact was simply challenged by Russia, which launched direct armed aggression against the country.

He also drew attention to the fact that Russia massively violates the rights of the Crimean Tatars on the occupied peninsula, opens criminal cases against them, including the one banning the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people.
