Kyiv SBU ex-head, leader of punitive operation against Maidan Shchoholiev to be tried tomorrow

On March 31, at 2 p.m., the Kyiv Court of Appeal will hear the case of Oleksandr Shchoholiev, former Kyiv and the Kyiv region SBU head, who led the "anti-terrorist" operation on Feb. 18-20, 2014 during the Revolution of Dignity.

Human rights activist Taras Hataliak told Censor.NET that the Kyiv Court of Appeal will determine the jurisdiction of the case and name a district court of the capital, which will consider an indictment of the prosecutor's office against Shchoholiev. He stressed that if the Court of Appeal or a district court delay the verdict, the term of Shchoholiev's arrest may expire and he will be released.

According to the activist, such a scheme was recently used to release Rostyslav Zavorotnyi, suspected of arming 'titushkas' [paid protesters - ed.] during Euromaidan events.
