Militants launched 158 mortar shells against Zaitseve today, - Staff

In eastern Ukraine, the militants of the illegal armed groups continue committing strikes on the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) forces’ positions using weapons banned by the Minsk agreements.

Censor.NET reports citing the latest update by the ATO Staff press center.

The situation report reads: "33 attacks have been recorded today. The enemy assaulted Ukrainian troops' strong points in Luhanske, Maiorsk, Avdiivka, Opytne, and Novhorodske at the Donetsk section of the front.

"It was very hot in Zaitseve as it was hit by 158 mortar shells of 82-mm and 120-mm caliber launched by the pro-Russian mercenaries over an hour and a half. The enemy mortar strikes also impacted the Ukrainian troops' positions in the vicinity of Avdiivka.

"Besides, the enemy employed automatic grenade launchers and small arms against the ATO forces there. Its efforts to invite the retaliation of the Ukrainian army using weapons with caliber larger than 80 mm have once again proved to be in vain. Our soldiers were able to keep their positions using small arms, grenade launchers and high-caliber machine guns.

"The militants resumed attacks on the Ukrainian forces' positions at the Luhansk section of the front. In particular, a sniper assaulted our soldiers near Shchastia and a high-caliber machine gun was employed by the enemy near Novozvanivka. The similar attacks took place in Shyrokyne at the Mariupol section of the front.

"The intensity and nature of the assaults on the ATO forces' positions evidences the militants' attempts to keep pressure on the servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine along the demarcation line."
