Shokin officially orders prosecutors not to refer cases to NABU, – Anti-Corruption Action Center head

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Shokin has sent letters to regional prosecutors and heads of separate departments with which he ordered them not to refer cases to the National Anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).

Anti-Corruption Action Center Head Vitalii Shabunin said on air of 112 Ukraine TV channel, Censor.NET reports.

"It was a formal letter which Shokin sent to regional prosecutors and heads of separate departments. The letter, which can hardly be termed as correspondence due to its inappropriate casuistry, contains clear instruction not to refer cases to the Anti-corruption Bureau within their jurisdiction, which directly violates provisions of the law. In other words, the prosecutor general, who must de jure uphold the rule of law in the country, breaches the law protecting his own interests."

Shabunin stresses that the longer Shokin holds the office of the Prosecutor General, the "fewer chances Poroshenko has to win elections, not to mention staying until the end of his tenure".
