"If we had Constitution of 1996, crisis would have been gone," - Poroshenko

If the Constitution of 1996 was in effect today, the current political crisis would have been gone.

As reported by Censor.NET citing 112 Ukraine TV channel, this was announced by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.

"We live in conditions of parliamentary presidential republic, and if now we had the Constitution of 1996, I assure you the crisis would have already been gone. Because the president would have suggested a candidate for the post of prime minister, would bear responsibility for them, the parliament would have voted, ministers would have been appointed by presidential decrees, and the issue would have been closed," he said.

As previously reported, in 2010, during the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych, the Constitutional Court had ruled on abolishing the 2004 constitutional reform and restoring the Constitution of 1996 which granted the president much more power.
