Russian court sentences Savchenko to 22 years in colony (updated)

Russian court has sentenced Ukrainian pilot Nadiia Savchenko to 22 years in colony and a 30,000-ruble fine.

This is reported by Censor.NET correspondent from the court room.

Savchenko reminded that she would not appeal.

"Why would you make me a criminal, I am a soldier, I was defending my country!" she said.

The court sentenced Savchenko to 18 years in prison for murder of Russian reporters, and to 10 years for murder attempt. Final term, considering combination of the two, would make 22 years in prison. It started on June 30, 2014, when Savchenko was arrested.

The fine of 30,000 rubles ($442) was imposed for the illegal border crossing.

Lawyer Nikaly Polozov wrote on his Twitter account: "Murder - 18, attempt - 10, border crossing - fine. Total: 22 years and 30,000 rubles fine."

Earlier, prosecutors demanded 23 years of colony and a 100,000-ruble fine for Savchenko. She was accused of murder of two Russian TV reporters, murder attempt, and illegal crossing of the border.
