As Censor.NET correspondent reports, many partial people and politicians came to bid last farewell to the famous journalist.
In particular, Poroshenko Bloc MPs Serhii Leshchenko and Mustafa Nayyem (former journalists of Ukrainska Pravda founded by Gongadze), Volodymyr Ariev, People's Front MP Victoriia Siumar, and deputies Ihor Mosiichuk (the Radical Party), Volodymyr Parasiuk (non-affiliated), Minister of Youth and Sports Ihor Zhdanov, former Socialist Party leader Oleksandr Moroz, former Minister of Culture Yevhen Nyshchuk, and ex-people's deputy Taras Chornovil.
In particular, former leader of the Socialist Party noted in his comment to Censor.NET that sabotaging the investigation of the Gongadze case is "a great shame for Ukraine." He stressed that the law enforcement intentionally sabotage the probe into Gongadze's murder and expressed doubt that the case will finally be solved and its contractors will be punished. "Despite the fact that everyone knows who is behind Gongadze's murder, they have not been punished and remain at large," Moroz said.
Minister of Youth and Sports Ihor Zhdanov, who was personally acquainted with Heorhii Gongadze, also expressed doubt that the real contractors will be punished, as too much time has passed.
In his opinion, solving the case is curbed by "political or private interests of individuals who are direct contractors of the murder. They take every effort to ensure lest the truth be disclosed. I will not name them. The investigation should do that. But from a legal point of view, unfortunately, we have a biased and dependent prosecutor's office, subjective courts."
As previously reported, journalist Heorhii Gongadze was killed in fall of 2000. On March 15, 2008, the Kyiv Appeals Court declared three former officers of the Interior Ministry External Surveillance Department Valerii Kostenko, Mykola Protasov, and Oleksandr Popovych guilty of the murder. They were sentenced to 12 to 13 years in prison.
In January 2013, the court also sentenced former head of the External Surveillance Department Oleksii Pukach to life imprisonment for the murder of the journalist. Meanwhile, Gongadze's family still believes that real contractors remain at large.
