The statement reads: "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expresses resolute protest in connection with the attack by unknown persons on the consul of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Rostov-on-Don, who arrived in Grozny (the Russian Federation) to take part in the trial of Ukrainian citizens Mykola Karpiuk and Stanislav Klykh illegally held on the territory of the Russian Federation.
"The attack on a person, who enjoys diplomatic immunity, is a flagrant violation of all international law acts. It demonstrates the unwillingness of the Russian side to guarantee the safety to foreign diplomats in its territory.
"We recognize the obstacles the Russian authorities create to relatives, defenders and witnesses, violence and intimidation of anyone, who openly speaks about the political persecution of Ukrainians in Russia, as attempt of the Kremlin to prevent the unbiased coverage of the mock trial of Mykola Karpiuk and Stanislav Klykh and other Ukrainians, who have become political prisoners.
"We demand the Russian side to immediately take measures to ensure the Ukrainian diplomats' security of stay and travel through the territory of the Russian Federation, investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice."
