"It’s not reform, but evolvement of National Police that is currently underway," - Dekanoidze

The key reform is the one that took place in the minds of the new police officers.

Head of the National Police of Ukraine Khatia Dekanoidze said at a meeting with representatives of a student community, Censor.NET reports citing the National Police Public Relations Department.

Dekanoidze stressed that hearing and helping a person in distress was the goal into which all effort was hurled. A citizen's confidence that one will not only be listened to, but also provided assistance, should become the thought pattern in society.

"A statement of each person, who comes to a police precinct, is now registered and considered as fast as possible. It wasn't like this earlier, and it took a lot of effort for us to introduce the innovation," Dekanoidze said.

In addition, Dekanoidze noted that the main value of the National Police was not new cars, uniforms, and technical means, although they were essential for the agency's efficiency.

"The key reform is the one that took place in the minds of the new police officers, who are now truly serving the people and protecting them," she said.

Dekanoidze emphasized that it were the youth that were the potential talent pool, who would build not only a new law enforcement system in the future, but also the country as a whole.
