Need for draftees can be minimized if 5,000-7,000 soldiers sign contract, Defense Minister Poltorak says

Minister of Defense of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak does not rule out that the seventh military draft wave may not be necessary.

He stated this during a meeting with Minister of National Defence of Canada Harjit Singh Sajjan, Censor.NET reports citing Lіga.

"After the personnel pay service was increased over the past two months, we have signed contracts with more than 9,000 soldiers. We expect that 5,000-7,000 soldiers will sign contracts in the coming months. This will allow us to minimize the need for the next military draft," Poltorak said.

Earlier, Stepan Poltorak said that if a decision about the next wave of mobilization was taken, the preliminary number of conscripts drafted in the Armed Forces of Ukraine would be 10,000-12,000 men. If the number of contract servicemen is increased, Ukraine may put aside military draft in the long term under condition of the absence of active hostilities.
