 Novoaidar district council ex-head arrested on suspicion of organizing fake separatist referendum

On March 12, based on the materials of Ukraine's Security Service, the court arrested the former head of the Novoaidar district council, charged with organizing the fake separatist referendum in May 2014.

As reported, it was the head of the district council who instructed deputies and heads of local councils, helped provide premises for "voting," organized and supervised the work of "election commission" as well as the publication of the results of the "referendum" in local media.

The probe lasted for more than a year. Investigators have questioned some 100 participants and witnesses of the incident, conducted investigative experiments, analyzed a large number of documents, photos and videos, collected a huge evidence base.

The criminal is suspected of an offence under part 2, article 110 (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and remanded in custody by court decision.

As previously reported, in February-March 2016, based on the materials of the SBU, three organizers of the fake separatist referendum were arrested in separate settlements of the Novoaidar district, including two deputies and the head of a village council.
