"I was at the Mazepa observation strong point and it occurred right before my eyes. One contract soldier received injuries a result of the attack committed by the illegal armed group using IFV gun. Another soldier, who was wounded, died later," Maruhyn said.
The officer noted that the militants employed IFV guns, AGS-17 automatic grenade launchers, high-caliber machine guns, and small arms more than five times over the past day.
"They constantly provoke us. Our observation posts are located 700 meters away from the illegal armed groups' positions. When our guys go on combat duty, they [militants] are constantly shelling our position with AGS (automatic grenade launchers), as they know all the targets. They were registering the targets with automatic grenade launchers for three days in a row and decided to add IFV today," the officer said.
Maruhyn expressed opinion that it was too early to say about a full-scale militants attack since they had neither means nor desire for it.
