"Nadiia deserves to go home," - Biden urged Russia to release Savchenko

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden calls on Russia to "make the right choice," drop all charges and release Ukrainian pilot Nadiia Savchenko at once.

This is announced in a White House statement, Censor.NET.

"Today, as we mark International Women's Day and honor all the brave women who struggle with injustice in this world, we also stand with Nadiia and with the Ukrainian people," Biden said.

"Nadiia has been unjustly imprisoned in Russia since 2014 - detained and facing trial on trumped up charges," he said, adding Savchenko was proudly serving Ukraine as a member of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, fighting in the eastern part of the country when she was abducted by separatists and taken across the border against her will.

Biden believes that over the last 20 months, she has become a symbol of the country's national pride and strength.

He argued that the further illegal detention of Nadiia Savchenko is a "clear violation" of Russia's obligations under the Minsk agreements. Biden called on Russia to "make the right choice" and immediately free the Ukrainian.

"Nadiia deserves to go home to her family and friends and join her fellow Rada members to begin shaping a new Ukraine," the politician resumed.
