OSCE's police mission able to safeguard elections in Donbas; Russia to be pressured for its deployment, - Klimkin

It is necessary to increase international pressure on Russia with the purpose of deploying OSCE's police mission in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

As reported by Censor.NET, this was announced by Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin in an interview to Ukrainski Novyny.

"Police mission of OSCE, as of me, is an option for safeguarding the elections. At the moment, OSCE is presided by Germany. I always say that we need to start meaningful talks about this mission's mandate, how we will organize it, and how we will finance it," Klimkin said answering the question on how meaningful were the talks of deploying the mandate of the OSCE police mission there.

As long as the mission is an armed one, Klimkin also noted the need for elaboration of the rules of weapons use.

"Our colleagues understand full well that all decisions withing OSCE are made on the basis of consensus, thus, respectively, Russia will have impact upon this mission's aspects as well. But we need to unite and put pressure on Russia for implementation of this mission, for without it, we will not be able to speak of real security," the minister added.

According to him, the function of safeguarding in the Donbas could not be fulfilled by Ukrainian police, due to which it is required to deploy an international component in the Donbas.
