The actual abolition of the visa regime between Ukraine and the European Union will take place not later than in early 2017.

Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Ukraine Henryk Litwin voiced this opinion in comments to journalists in Kharkiv, Censor.NET informs citing UNIAN.

"I am convinced that we will hear the final positive decision in 2016. However it's hard to say how long it will take to actually implement the decision. But I expect that we will hear the decision in 2016 and will put it into practice not later than in early 2017," Litwin said.

According to him, "the scenario is already known" and there is no need to expect new obstacles.

"In Poland, we have always been stressing that we need open borders and introduce visa-free regime with Ukraine. We know very well that it will pose no threat, and benefit both the European and Ukrainian sides," the ambassador underlined.

However, he noted that the abolition will concern only the travel Schengen visas.

"While the rest types of visas, related to the labour permits, cultural and business exchange will remain," Litwin said.

At the same time, the ambassador noted that granting of Polish national visas to Ukrainians had already been liberalized as much as possible.

"As for the national visas, all the requirements have been facilitated as much, that it is difficult to find an opportunity to simplify something further. I want to remind that these visas are free of charge," the ambassador said.
