 EC stresses importance of Ukraine’s energy commitments to EU fulfillment

Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchyshyn discussed key challenges in the energy sector with Vice-President of the European Commission for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič.

Censor.NET reports citing the statement by the press service of the ministry summarizing the meeting, which was held in Kyiv today, Feb. 1.

"The Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine and the European Commission Vice President for Energy Union have discussed the key challenges in the energy sector, which Ukraine is currently facing. The importance of Ukraine's soonest adoption of bills on energy market and national regulatory authority were meant in particular," the statement reads.

Maroš Šefčovič has stressed the importance of those and other laws in the energy sector, aimed at honoring Ukraine's commitments to the European community. He also expressed hope that the government would adopt a bill on energy market on March 2.

The parties discussed further Ukraine-Russia-EU cooperation, paid special attention to the issue of splitting Naftohaz of Ukraine.

The interlocutors agreed that the search for ultimate solution for splitting Naftohaz of Ukraine NJSC was one of the main tasks to be performed for further efficient functioning of the industry.
