Before the hearing, judge of the Pechersk district court in Kyiv Svitlana Volkova said that she has not been occupying her position for nine months.

Volkova told reporters before the Shevchenko district court in Kyiv started trying her under charges of taking illegal decisions, Censor.NET informs.

The release of former Berkut company commander Dmytro Sadovnyk from custody was meant in particular.

"This was the decision due to which Dmytro Sadovnyk, the commander of Berkut company, escaped and has been avoiding punishment for the murders committed Feb. 20, 2014," the statement reads.

Volkova said that she had only one lawyer. She refused to comment on charges brought against her.

Vitalii Tytych and Pavlo Dykan - the lawyers of the relatives of those killed on the Maidan - appealed to recognize their clients as the affected party in Volkova's case.

Svitlana Volkova was ousted by the decisions of the High Judicial Qualifications Commission of Ukraine of Dec. 26, 2014 and March 10, 2015. However, she appealed the decisions in the Higher Administrative Court of Ukraine, which canceled her suspension from office by the rulings of June 3 and 4, 2015.
