President Petro Poroshenko met with commanders of brigades and veteran officers to discuss the improvement of Ukrainian army efficiency. The meeting was also attended by Minister of Defense Stepan Poltorak and Chief of the General Staff Viktor Muzhenko.

At the beginning, the president told the participants about the implementation of profound security and defense reform. "We are now changing the structure, all technologies and approaches to ensuring the defensive security of the state as well as the transition of the Ukrainian army to the NATO standards," the head of state noted.

According to Poroshenko, he initiated the meeting with veteran officers forged in the area of anti-terrorist operation (ATO) as they are best acquainted with all the realities of military service and current challenges, knowing what steps should be taken for further development of the army.

"Future generations of Ukrainian servicemen should learn to defend their Homeland following your example. And your honest, weighed, and impartial opinion on the future development of the Armed Forces is extremely important to me," the president said.

The parties discussed the issue of contract service. Poroshenko inquired about the situation with the remuneration of the military. He stressed the need to step up the involvement of demobilized servicemen with combat experience.
