 Starobelsk mayor death caused by gunshot wounds to head and neck, - National Police

Mayor of Starobelsk city in the Luhansk region Volodymyr Zhyvaha was killed with two shots to the head and neck. Investigators are considering several versions regarding the motives for the murder of the official, including political killing.

Spokesperson of the National Police Main Directorate in the Luhansk region Tetiana Pohukai said, Censor.NET reports citing 112 Ukraine TV channel.

"At the moment, we have information that the death was caused by gunshot wounds to the head and neck. Two 9-mm bullets were discovered at the autopsy. This fact was registered in the Unified Register of pre-trial investigations under Part 1 of the Article 115 of the Criminal Code (intentional homicide). Different leads regarding the motives are being pursued including politically-related killing, domestic homicide, and murder related to mayor's business activities," Pohukai said.

A guard patrolling the territory found Zhyvaha lying unconscious in the back yard of the Starobelsk City Council yesterday, Feb. 22 at 10 p.m.
