 Peaceful political solution to conflict in Donbas still vague, - Steinmeier and Ayrault

Foreign Ministers of France and Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Jean-Marc Ayrault stress that the Minsk peace process is the only way to restore peace in Ukraine, stating at the same time the peaceful political efforts have failed to settle the conflict so far.

The struggle for the right policies in Ukraine is a subject of close attention of not only people in Ukraine itself but also the entire world. Everyone who would speak in the parliament or address Ukrainians should know they also address the European public. Ukraine is now facing unprecedented challenges. Its sovereignty has been put in jeopardy by a neighboring state in a manner that many in the XXI century Europe thought impossible, a joint statement by Steinmeier and Ayrault reads.

They deplored the fact of being far from a peaceful political solution to the conflict.

Even after 12 months from the adoption of the Minsk agreements, their implementation remains a challenge. However, it is of extreme importance for the future and stability in Ukraine. As the Minsk agreements are the only way to ensure that Ukraine restores its sovereignty over the whole territory and is finally able to live in peace, the statement notes.
