The first police squads will start patrolling the city streets tonight at 8 p.m., Censor.NET reports citing local news outlet 0462.ua.
The minute of silence in tribute to the memory of the fallen soldiers of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) was observed at the beginning of the ceremony. After that, the patrol police officers gave the oath to "truly serve the people of Ukraine, adhere to the Constitution and Law of Ukraine, respect and protect human rights and freedoms, the country's honor, and sincerely carry out our duties".
First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Eka Zguladze arrived in Chernihiv to introduce the reformed agency.
"The reality is that some people will be using you to hype themselves," she told the police officers.
"We need to implement more thorough reforms, and this does not make your life easier. But there is no job more dignified than the one of a good police officer. Carry out your duties, but lackey to no one. Observe the law, serve the people, respect yourself and confidently take difficult decisions," Zguladze said.
Former Commander of the 10th Company of the 2nd Battalion of the Kyiv Patrol Police Main Directorate Oleksandr Leonov has been appointed the Chernihiv patrol police head.
22 ATO participants, including the first Ukraine's female ATO participant Valentyna Syndieieva, will serve in the ranks of Chernihiv patrol police. The representatives of the Main Directorate of the Patrol Police of Ukraine expressed special thanks to her for courage and bravery, and bestowed her a bouquet of red roses and a vyshyvanka (traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt).
