"Canada may provide lethal weapons to Ukraine: we lobby this issue," - Ukrainian Canadian Congress President Grod

In the near future, Canada may be expected to adopt a resolution providing for lethal weapons supplies to Ukraine.

Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) President Paul Grod said in an interview with Ukrinform, Censor.NET reports.

According to him, putting Ukraine on the list of countries open for arms export is being lobbied in the Canadian government, and the decision is likely to be announced soon.

He adds that the UCC takes efforts to further the conclusion of agreement on cooperation in defense sphere between Ukraine and Canada. According to Grod, while Canada may not be the greatest military and economic power in the world, such an agreement could encourage other countries to develop relations with Ukraine.

At the same time, the weapons the Canadian army removed from service are not suitable for the Armed Forces of Ukraine due to poor technical condition.

Grod says he had a frank conversation with former Defense Minister Jason Kenney who confirmed he had looked through the list of military equipment which was to be discarded. Kenney told him that the Ukrainian side also saw this list but concluded that the equipment was unsuitable due to high recovery costs.
