Visa-free package law to deal with corrupt assets passes first reading

The Verkhovna Rada has adopted one of the so-called visa-free bills No. 4056, suggesting amendments to the law of Ukraine on the National Agency of Ukraine for detection, investigation and management of assets derived from corruption and other crimes.

Censor.NET reports referring to Verkhovna Rada website.

The decision was supported by 282 deputies.

The bill is also expected to authorize the agency to not only preserve the assets seized in criminal proceedings, but also to possess, use, and/or dispose of such assets, including the right to sell, technologically process, or transfer such assets under management.

In addition, the bill is intended to legally fix the size of salaries of agency employees, which would additionally guarantee their independence and eliminate internal technical inconsistencies between the provisions of this act.

The bill was passed inclusive of all amendments voiced during debate.
