Until the Russian side provides explanations and tackles the issue, Ukraine suspends the movement of Russian trucks through its territory.

Following the government's meeting on Monday morning, Feb. 15, the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine will take appropriate measures.

Prime Minister Arsenii Yatseniuk said that after the Russian Federation unilaterally violated the rules and procedures of the World Trade Organization and bilateral intergovernmental agreement on road transport, banning the movement of Ukrainian trucks across its territory, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately sent a note to the Russia side, asking for an explanation of such an illegal action.

"Until the Russian side provides explanations and tackles the issue, Ukraine temporarily suspends the validity of transit permits issued for trucks registered in the Russian Federation, which entails the suspension of the movement of Russian trucks across the territory of Ukraine," Yatseniuk said.

"We demand that Russia immediately fulfills the requirements of the WTO and allow transit of Ukrainian transport," the prime minister said.

Yatseniuk also said that the Ukrainian side is consulting upon the issue with the EU member countries, stressing the necessity of following the basic principles of the World Trade Organization by Russia.
