Turchynov has visited the defensive positions of our troops near Zaitseve, Maiorsk, the Donetsk airport, Opytne, and Butivka mine.
According to him, not for a single day did Russian occupation forces and terrorist groups cease fire on Ukrainian army positions, blatantly violating the Minsk agreements. "And today, while we were staying near the Donetsk airport, our positions came under attack," he said.
Turchynov checked the reliability of defensive lines and effectiveness of protection of personnel enduring provocative attacks by militants.
The NSDC secretary also checked the front line logistics support as well as material and living conditions of the military. "The organization of military everyday life greatly depends on the professionalism and responsibility of commanders. A strong commander is a guarantee of reliable defense and troops' welfare," he said.
Staying at Zaitseve checkpoint, closed for the time being because of constant attacks posing danger to the lives of citizens, Turchynov draw the attention of border guards and representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine to the "need of increasing the quality of checks after the point resumes its work to prevent the ingress of subversive and terrorist groups to the territory of Ukraine."
"Zaitseve checkpoint will open only after terrorists stop shelling the area," he said, adding that due to significant increase in the number of attacks, another checkpoint near the village of Marinka can also get closed.
At the same time, Turchynov stressed that the closure of checkpoints "is not a method of punishment but a way to protect lives of our citizens who use them."
In addition, at Zaitseve checkpoint, the NSDC secretary held a meeting with Head of the Donetsk Military and Civil Administration Pavlo Zhebrivskyi, the regional leadership of the SBU, the National Police, and border guards. During the meeting, they discussed outstanding problems of the Donetsk region and their possible solutions.
