Pursuant to an order by Russian President Vladimir Putin, at 4 a.m. on Feb. 8, this year's first comprehensive snap combat readiness check of the Russian Armed Forces began. Russia’s southern military district and certain units of the Airborne Troops and military-transport aviation were engaged, including 8,500 servicemen, more than 900 units of combat and special vehicles, 200 aircraft and helicopters, and 50 ships.

As reported by Censor.NET citing National Security and Defense Council press service, this was announced by NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov.

"The check will encompass full alert drills for certain kinds of troops (forces) as well as ingress of units to operational areas; transportation of troops over long (up to 3,000 km) distances by rail and air; aviation readiness; protection of important military and state facilities.

"On Feb. 9 this year, naval search strike groups as well as naval strike groups of the Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian Fleet began to "implement tasks to ensure favorable operational regime in the Black and Caspian seas.

"Minesweeper groups in cooperation with naval aviation are engaged in submarine and mine search drills. Support ships are ready to provide resources at sea. All these military exercises are conducted in the vicinity of the eastern border of our country. Moreover, in the framework of the said check, the so-called 1st and 2nd Army Corps stationed in the temporarily occupied territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions also do drills. This fact once again proves the occupation forces to be an integral part of the Russian army.

"Finally, we can say that the Russian Armed Forces, along with the 1st and 2nd Army Corps and other units of the occupation forces deployed in the temporarily uncontrolled territory of Ukraine, are actively preparing for an aggressive military onslaught, which poses direct threat to our country," the statement reads.
