More than 30 officers of the Special Operations Department of the National Anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine have taken oath. The special forces of the NABU will comprise 96 soldiers and armored equipment.

"The NABU law stipulates for creation of the special unit, which we call special operations department, with three functions," head of the NABU Artem Sytnyk said to reporters in Kyiv on Tuesday at the event of oath-taking of more than 30 officers of the department, which was attended by president of Ukraine, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

According to NABU director, the department's tasks will be apprehension of suspects, enhancing security of participants of the process, and enhancing security of NABU employees and those from the special anti-corruption prosecution in cases when they might face threats during investigation.

"The department has been formed since fall of 2015 and comprises 96 persons," Sytnyk said.

According to him, as of now, the unit is completed by more than 50 percent and equipped with weapons; armored vehicles will be also provided.

"We are often asked why do we need armored equipment; I say that a fully operating special forces unit should have armored vehicles for conducting training; secondly, [to conduct] certain apprehensions; we had some in the anti-terrorist operation area, so I presume that subsequent apprehensions will take place there and we would like to be conducting them autonomously," Sytnyk said.

He added that the official oath is taken on Tuesday by commanding officers, from lieutenants to a NABU colonel.

"First searches and investigations that have been conducted by detectives were supported by the special operations department, including apprehension of four judges," the director of the National Anti-corruption Bureau said.

Sytnyk also said that representatives of the department will be able to participate in the ATO, "for this is a real special operation forces' unit, spetznaz."
