The Defense Minister welcomed Mr. Poikans with appointment and expressed confidense it would promote development and expansion of Latvian-Ukrainian and EU-Ukrainian cooperation.
Stepan Poltorak thanked the Ambassador for assistance and support provided by the Latvian people and government.
The parties discussed the current situation in Ukraine, particularly, in the east of the country, as well as key aspects of bilateral cooperation and underlined the importance of the Minsk agreements fulfillment.
Stepan Poltorak spoke about army reforms as well.
Discussing the bilateral defence cooperation, the parties agreed to continue holding joint drills, take part in bilateral and multinational exercise and training, etc.
The Defence Minister thanked the Latvian party for assistance in treatment and rehabilitation of the Ukrainian ATO combatants.
Ambassador Juris Poikans praised the Armed Forces of Ukraine development progress and underlined the importance of experience sharing between the defence ministries of the countries. He pledged of the readiness of the Latvian party to continue treatment and rehabilitation of the Ukrainian soldiers.
Mr. Poikans announced readiness to organize English speech studies for Ukrainian servicemen in Latvia.
