Even with toughest verdict, Savchenko to avoid custody and return home, - lawyer

Ukrainian pilot Nadiia Savchenko will return to Ukraine, even if Russian court sentences her to a lengthy prison term.

Lawyer Nikolay Polozov said, Censor.NET informs citing Interfax-Ukraine.

"As for Nadiia Savchenko, I can state that even if the toughest sentence is passed - 25 years - she will not serve it and will return to Ukraine," Polozov said in Skype at a press conference in Kyiv on Friday.

The lawyer explains it by the fact Savchenko has several political statuses: Verkhovna Rada deputy and member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, "therefore, she is a subject of foreign policy, to which Putin is forced to react." "Thus, in the political process, she is one of the first who Putin will trade," he said.

According to Polozov, it will not necessarily be a person-for-person exchange "Putin may consider lifting sanctions against his friends or some other preferences but ultimately, Nadiia Savchenko will be released."
