Ukraine buys all gas from Europe, says no sense to change tactics, - Naftohaz CEO Koboliev

Europe's lower prices for natural gas and its sufficient stocks in Ukrainian gas storage facilities allow Ukraine to do without Russian gas in the near future.

As reported by Censor.NET referring to Interfax-Ukraine, this was announced by Naftohaz Ukrainy CEO Andrii Koboliev.

"We are currently buying all gas in the European market. For now, we see no need to change the tactics. Especially, taking into account more favorable prices in Europe," he told reporters on Friday on the sidelines of the Davos Ukrainian Lunch organized by Victor Pinchuk Foundation.

Koboliev said that as of Friday morning, the volume of natural gas purchased from Europe made some 40 million cubic meters per day, while the volume of gas withdrawn from storage facilities amounted to about 90 million cubic meters.

Naftohaz CEO recognized that in case of a long spell of very cold weather, Ukraine may theoretically start purchasing Russian gas.

"The end of February has always been problematic for Ukraine's gas transportation system," Koboliev said.

According to him, the system is operating normally at the moment.

When asked to share his opinion about possible situation in February, Naftohaz CEO said weather forecasting was not his job.

"I have three forecasts and they are all very different, you can close your eyes and choose any of them," Koboliev said.
