 Soviet Union emblem dismantled from Motherland Monument in Kyiv

The state emblem of the Soviet Union is being dismantled from the shield of the Motherland Monument (also known as Batkivshchyna Maty) in Kyiv.

Head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory Volodymyr Viatrovych wrote on Facebook, Censor.NET reports.

"With the shield, but without the Soviet emblem on it: the coat of arms of the USSR will be removed from the shield of the Batkivshchyna Maty sculpture," he said.

As known, the sculpture of Batkivshchyna Maty erected on the right bank of the Dnipro River in Kyiv holds a 16 meter-long sword weighing nine tons in one hand and a shield weighing 13 tons with the coat of arms of the USSR in the other one. The opening of the monument took place in 1981.
