5-storey residential building caught fire and exploded in downtown Kyiv; one person died, three more injured. PHOTOS

One person died and three others were hospitalized on Wednesday as a fire occurred in a 5-storey building on Mykhailivska Street in Kyiv.

Censor.NET reports referring to State Emergency Service of Ukraine press service.

As reported, the fire occurred in an office space on building's first floor at 2:48 a.m.

At 3:28 a.m., the fire being put out, an explosion of unknown origin rocked the spot leading to the collapse of a concrete slab between the 1st and 2nd floors, injuring one person (the National Police officer) who was hospitalized with moderate severity injuries.

At 5:40 a.m., a dead woman (born in 1927) was found among the debris.


At 5:18 a.m., the fire has been taken under control while firemen continued to extinguish it and remove the wreckage.

Five people are reported to have been rescued from the third floor: two adults and a child. Two more children reportedly poisoned by combustion products were taken to Okhmatdyt children's hospital, while the policeman was taken to Kyiv regional hospital with various severity injuries.
