Gazprom demands $2.5 billion from Naftohaz for unused gas

On Tuesday, Russia's Gazprom issued a bill to Naftohaz Ukrainy, demanding to pay for the gas unused by the Ukrainian company in Q3 2015 under the take-or-pay condition.

In accordance with a valid gas contract between Gazprom and Naftohaz Ukrainy, the buyer is obliged to annually pay for a minimal yearly amount of gas. Based on the terms of the contract, the amount of gas Ukraine had to use in Q3 2015 was 10.485 billion cubic meters. Taking this into account as well as the amount of gas Gazprom supplied to Ukraine in Q3 2015, Naftohaz Ukrainy has been issued a $2.549 billion bill, Censor.NET reports citing UNIAN.

Gazprom expects to receive the payment within 10 days.

"Ukraine actually refused to buy Russian gas in Q3 2015, and we reached no agreements about not applying the take-or-pay condition during that period," Gazprom CEO Miller said.
