National Bank's head accused Ukrainian media of corruption

Head of the National Bank Valeriia Hontarieva accused Ukrainian mass media of corruption.

She said this in a lecture "How to overcome a perfect storm and reform the financial system: a view from the National Bank" being part of course of lectures "Macroeconomics by top figures: money, central bank, politics," Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainski Novyny.

"The problem of our country is mostly due to the fact a great deal of media is owed by oligarchic clans. Therefore, having no intention to offend the media present here today, I very often call them free corrupt media. And it's very scary. If we are trying to rid ourselves of oligarch's influence, demonopolize the entire market, free our economic sector of tycoons, I think, media should be the first in this sense," she said.

Any false information is disinformation which creates panic in the market, Hontarieva noted.

She believes Ukraine would get through the crisis much easier if the panic was not fueled.

As reported, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko at a press conference on Jan. 14 announced the submission of National Bank Head Valeriia Hontarieva for nominating the title of the world's best central banker in 2015.
