Ukrainian boxer Hlazkov denied rumors about his Russian citizenship: "I am Ukrainian citizen".

Ukrainian boxer Viacheslav Hlazkov denied the information that on Jan.16 he will fight against American Charles Martin in the name of the Russian Federation.

Censor.NET reports citing Sport.ua.

"I am a citizen of Ukraine," 31-year-old Luhansk resident, who has lived in the U.S. for a while, told the journalists, answering the question about the upcoming IBF heavyweight champion fight.

Recently, Russian media reported that Hlazkov will get a Russian passport in the nearest future. The journalists cited Russian promoter Kirill Pchelnikov.

The belt, for which Hlazkov and Martin will compete, had belonged to Volodymyr Klitschko for more than 11 years. However, Ukrainian champion was beaten by Tyson Fury on Nov. 28, 2015.

Later, Tyson refused to defend the title in a fight with mandatory challenger Hlazkov. Thus, Hlazkov vs Martin fight was organized in order to compete for the vacant belt.
