Leaders of Germany, France, Ukraine, and Russia to make statement on implementation of Minsk agreements in 2016 in near future, – MP Iryna Herashchenko

The leaders of the so-called Normandy Four will decide on the process of implementation of Minsk accords in 2016 in the near future.

Commissioner of the President of Ukraine on the peaceful settlement of the situation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions Iryna Herashchenko said on air of Channel 5, Censor.NET reports.

"In fact, the Minsk format [of negotiations] is derived from the agreements reached in Normandy format. The leaders of Normandy format (Germany, France, Ukraine, and Russia - Ed.) will make a decision as to what the implementation of the Minsk process will be like in 2016. It is clear that the Minsk agreements have not been fulfilled. The country that breached them - the Russian Federation - bears responsibility. Therefore, the European Union and the United States have extended the sanctions against the Russian Federation for six months. Thus it is obvious that it is the Normandy format leaders who should determine the activities of groups in Minsk," she said adding: "There will be a statement made following the results of the talks in the Normandy format by its leaders."

According to Herashchenko, the Minsk agreements are not being fulfilled but they work: "But why they work anyway? I think that there is more understanding of this formula in the society today: "they are not being fulfilled but they work" because they are connected with the sanctions. If there were no Minsk agreements, there would be no sanctions against Russia, its hands would have been untied, and we do not know where "these little green men - the people, who are fulfilling something in the Donbas," as Putin has said in his latest interview, would be today. The sanctions are preventing offensive, they are tying the hands of the Russian Federation while its economy is on its way to collapse," the politician is convinced.
