The statement reads: "The armed pro-Russian gangs kept attacking the ATO forces positions on Christmas. The militants have committed 24 armed provocations against the Ukrainian soldiers over the past day. A quarter of all armed attacks were accurate.
"In particular, the invaders were shelling our positions located on the northern outskirts of Lebedynske village not far from Mariupol with 82-mm mortars since yesterday evening. The criminals have launched at least 12 mortar shells totally. The invaders provided accurate fire at one of the Ukrainian strongholds in the vicinity of Zaitseve village using the same type of weapon," the headquarters stated.
"The Kremlin mercenaries provided harassing fire at the Ukrainian soldiers deployed in the outskirts of the Pisky, Opytne, and Novhorodske with small arms, grenade launchers of various systems, and heavy machine guns several times from dusk till midnight. The Russian-terrorist gangs, which had dug themselves in at the destroyed Donetsk airport, were providing indiscriminate fire at the Ukrainian detachments' positions near Opytne for 15 minutes at around 1 a.m. Jan. 8," the ATO press-center reported.
