The head of state spoke with the military, wished them a happy New Year, and awarded those who had demonstrated courage defending the state.
Ukraine is proud of its army and trusts it, the president said.
The stabilized situation in the east of Ukraine is the main achievement in the sphere of security and defense in 2015, Poroshenko remarked.
"Fellow Ukrainians! Such years as 2015 are considered as "one for three." We have overcome tough challenges, heroically defending the Donetsk airport, Debaltseve, Shyrokyne, and many other settlements in the east of our country. Together we withstood," the supreme commander-in-chief noted.
The president emphasized that both Ukraine and all Ukrainians owed glorious Ukrainian army an opportunity to celebrate New Year and Christmas. Poroshenko expressed sincere gratitude to all Ukrainian warriors from the entire nation.
"Standing here with you on the front line of our fight for independence and freedom, I reiterate that the guarantor of the Ukrainian statehood is the new Armed Forces of Ukraine born and hardened in the flames of war in 2014-2015," Petro Poroshenko said.
"The Armed Forces regained their combat capacity, obtained combat experience, increased operative capabilities, and improved technical equipment. We have created a powerful force capable of repelling the aggressor in case of escalation in the east of Ukraine," the president stressed.
Poroshenko emphasized the need of further reforming security and defense sectors as well as upgrading the Ukrainian military in accordance with NATO standards.
The president congratulated volunteers who played a significant role in army's transformation.
All supreme military officials accompanied Poroshenko during his visit.
