Tripartite Contact Group in Minsk agrees on cease-fire effective from midnight Dec. 23

In the course of the negotiations in Minsk, the Tripartite Contact Group to settle the situation in the Donbas has agreed upon cease-fire, which should come into effect from 12 a.m. Dec. 23

Censor.NET reports citing the statement by Darka Olifer, the press secretary of former President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, who is representing Ukraine in Minsk peace talks.

She wrote: "Today's meeting was final this year. The main result of the work of the Tripartite Contact Group in 2015 is the cessation of large-scale bloodshed. There is agreement on the withdrawal of weapons with caliber under 100 mm. More than 50 Ukrainian citizens were managed with great pains to be released from captivity. The restoration works are underway in a number of cities and villages in the Donbas - power lines, water and gas supply systems, railroads are restored, and civilians in affected areas receive humanitarian assistance."

"Four working sub-groups (of the Tripartite Contact Group to settle the situation in the Donbas - Ed.), which began its work in May 2015, have played a significant role in all these processes. The key issue which still remains without a solution is the continuation of attacks at the contact line," Olifer wrote.

She stressed: "That is why there is agreement on the full and unconditional cease-fire effective from 12 a.m. Dec. 23. The civilians of Donbas need this initiative first of all so that they can peacefully celebrate Christmas and New year."
