Talks between Ukraine, EU and Russia on free trade area ended without effect

Head of the Economic Development Ministry of Russia Alexey Ulyukaev told that the Brussels talks between Russia, Ukraine, and the European Commission confirmed previous provisions on the FTA between Kyiv and the EU.

As reported by Censor.NET, this was announced by RIA Novosti.

"The parties have confirmed their positions," he said.

According to him, the only result of the negotiations is recognition of the necessity of a transition period on technical regulations.

"The parties have agreed on transition periods for technical regulations. We offered five to 10 years, our colleagues [suggested] three to five years. But this is the only positive outcome of the talks," the minister said.

Ulyukaev explained that the terms of the transition period had not been agreed upon.

"We have faced unmistakable unpreparedness of the partners to consider our concerns in tax administration and veterinary checks sectors," he added.
