Commander U.S. Army Europe, Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges said in a Pentagon news conference, Censor.NET reports.
On Nov. 23, a new phase of training of the Ukrainian Armed Forces started, currently involving the first out of five army battalions, he said, adding the program was part of the Joint Multinational Training Group Ukraine, which includes British, Lithuanian and Canadian trainers.
During the second phase, the United States and other NATO countries plan to train and equip six battalions of Ukraine's ground forces, including a special forces battalion. According to Hodges, the training is provided by instructors from the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team of the U.S. Army based in Vicenza (Italy).
The army battalions will be doing drills at the Yavoriv training ground, while the special forces battalion - in Khmelnytskyi.
