De facto, NATO is our main partner in ensuring national security, - Poroshenko

NATO is Ukraine's key partner in ensuring the security of the state.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said, Censor.NET informs referring to Interfax-Ukraine.

"Let me remind you that the new military doctrine sets the task to ensure the full compatibility of the Ukrainian military with the relevant forces of NATO member countries by 2020. This is crucial as after reaching the membership criteria, we plan to receive a membership perspective. And we expect our partners to demonstrate the willingness to accept Ukraine," he said on Friday before the presentation of military awards to Ukrainian servicemen on the occasion of Ukraine's Armed Forces Day.

According to the president, Ukraine's aspiration to enter the Alliance is a key element of country's military reform.

"Unfortunately, at the end of the previous decade Ukraine was not able to accede NATO and the Alliance in the current situation is not our official ally de jure. But de facto, it is our main partner in ensuring national security," Poroshenko resumed.
