 Former MPs Yefremov, Stoian, and Hordienko face up to eight years in prison, trial underway

The Pechersk district court of Kyiv has started hearing the case against former deputies of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Yefremov, Oleksandr Stoian (Party of Regions faction), and Serhii Hordienko (Communist Party faction) suspected of abusing power and rigging the adoption of "dictatorship laws" on Jan. 16, 2014.

Court's judge Khrystyna Tarasiuk informed, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainski Novyny.

At the moment, the court is holding a preparatory meeting.

All three suspects are present in the courtroom.

The case against Yefremov, Stoian, and Hordienko was opened in connection with the illegal adoption of "dictatorship laws" on Jan. 16, 2014. The defendants are accused under part 2, article 364 (abuse of power or office, five to eight eight years in prison), part 2, article 366 (forgery, three to five years in prison) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
