Mi-8 helicopter was shot down during search operation at crash site of Su-24, one Marine killed, - Russian General Staff

Russian Mi-8 helicopter, which carried out the search and rescue operation in Syria at the crash site of the Su-24 bomber that was shot down earlier on Tuesday by the Turkish Air Force, was destroyed from the territory controlled by the insurgents.

It is reported by the General Staff of the Russian Federation, Censor.NET informs citing Interfax.

"One Russian Marine, a career soldier, was killed during the search operation. The search and rescue team and the crew of the helicopter downed in Syria were evacuated. They are currently at Himym air base. The operation to search and rescue the crew of the Su-24 bomber downed in Syria is underway," the statement reads.

Earlier, Turkish fighter jet shot down the Russian Su-24 bomber today. The Turkish side has repeatedly cautioned Russia against airspace violations during its campaign in Syria.
