Ukrainian Army General Staff denies information on failure of cooperation program with NATO on creation of Special Operation Forces

The process of creation of the Special Operation Forces (SOF) is underway as planned: the development concept has been masterminded and is currently undergoing review by the experts including advisers from the NATO.

Speaker of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Vladyslav Selezniov stated, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine

According to him, Chief of Staff Viktor Muzhenko initiated a working conference with the participation of the representatives of the NATO Liaison Office to discuss the Armed Forces of Ukraine development concept including the creation of the SOF Nov. 9.

"The President of Ukraine has charged the Armed Forces of Ukraine with a task to carry out the transition to NATO standards over the next five years. We have an objective and we are already working on its accomplishing," Selezniov said.

At the same time, he said that the Special Operation Forces were a classified project of the Armed Forces. "Therefore, the information about their creation and functioning is to a certain extent closed to the public," the speaker of the General Staff said adding that such practice was standard for NATO member countries.

According to Selezniov's comment on the criticisms concerning the relocation of military exercises from the Khmelnytskyi training ground to Yavoriv one, it was done due to the fact that Yavoriv training ground was one of the best military ranges. "There is everything necessary for quality drills," he said recalling that important international military exercises were held at this range.
